Chichester Music Society, formerly Funtington Music Group, was founded in 1992 by Robert Headley at his Funtington home and moved to the University in 2004. The aim and traditions of the group were to provide members with excellent musical performance and the opportunity to extend their musical knowledge and understanding, and to support the musical careers of students at the University. Since 2004 over £90,000 has been awarded in prizes, musical instruments and bursaries.
In 2022 following the Covid pandemic, due to a falling membership, the CMS committee agreed that the Society would focus on supporting the professional development of music students at the University through the sponsorship of workshops and concerts.
In 2025, the Society will be sponsoring four workshop/concerts with the University orchestras and a piano masterclass. The first of these events, the Piano Masterclass, will take place on Wednesday 5th February:
Piano Masterclass for Chichester University Piano Students
with Martino Tirimo (piano)
Wednesday 5th February at 7.30pm
Chapel of the Ascension, University of Chichester
Chamber Music Extravaganza
