Chichester Music Society, formerly Funtington Music Group, was founded in 1992 by Robert Headley at his Funtington home and moved to the University in 2004. The aim and traditions of the group were to provide members with excellent musical performance and the opportunity to extend their musical knowledge and understanding, and to support the musical careers of students at the University. Since 2004 over £90,000 has been awarded in prizes, musical instruments and bursaries.
In 2022 following the Covid pandemic, due to a falling membership, the CMS committee agreed that the Society would focus on supporting the professional development of music students at the University through the sponsorship of workshops and concerts.
In 2026, the Society will be sponsoring three or four workshop/concerts with the University orchestras and musicians, including:
Chamber music Extravaganza: Ensemble Reza & Bogdan Vacarescu (violin) with University of Chichester Conservatoire students
