Chichester Music Society
Helping to develop musical understanding
Chichester Music Society, formerly Funtington Music Group, was founded in 1992 by Robert Headley at his Funtington home and moved to the University in 2004. A motion to formally change our name to Chichester Music Society was put to the membership at this year’s AGM on 11th March and was overwhelmingly supported by members. The aim and traditions of the group remain unchanged - to provide members with excellent musical performance and the opportunity to extend their musical knowledge and understanding, and to support the musical careers of students at the University.
The 2021 season continues our tradition of providing members with excellent lecture/recitals. Alongside you will find details of the soloists and ensembles that will be performing for us this season. We are delighted to welcome back some old friends and are sure that we will be making some new ones!
Always popular with members is the annual Showcase Concert when six of the most talented University of Chichester music students compete for performance prizes of £600, £350 and £250 with runners-up receiving £100. Taken together with the 36 bursaries we have awarded and the musical instruments purchased, CMS charity funds have now given over £90,000 to the University in thanks for the free use of the Chapel, support staff and wonderful pianos. All of this reflects the great generosity and support of our members.
