Bursary and Performance Prize Scheme
The Robert Headley Fund was created to help students who are preparing for the start of their musical careers. Established in 2003, the Fund has to date awarded prizes, granted bursaries and purchased instruments worth a total of £90,000.
Prizes are given for adjudicated performances at the University of Chichester Student Showcase Concerts held annually in April. Bursaries are awarded to deserving students of music to help with student fees and other expenses, especially where personal or family incomes are not able to sustain full costs. Applicants for bursaries must have a good degree and have secured a post graduate place at a Conservatoire or University. Applicants must also have the strong support of the University of Chichester Music Department.
Charity Status was awarded to the Funtington Music Group in 2004. As a result, all donations qualify for Gift Aid tax refunds. This makes it possible to award one or two £1000 Bursaries a year and to provide a prize fund of £1250 for the annual student performance competition.
In the last fourteen years, twenty three Chichester University Graduates have been awarded bursaries to help with fees at post graduate institutions. The complete list is given on the next page.
In 2013 we established an instrument library to help students to practice and for orchestral performance. The library is dedicated to John Speir who was our first treasurer, founder member and generous donor to the Charity. Our first purchases are a concert harp and a Cor Anglais. Recently we have purchased an Allen digital organ, two fine violins, a violin bow and a cello bow. We are currently raising funds to purchase a cello.
Your generosity is much appreciated by the students and I would like to encourage everyone to continue to support this worthwhile cause. Donations may be made at any time of the year, and in particular when you are applying for annual membership of the Group.
